Royals Earn Late 3-2 Win

The Kansas City (AZL) Royals and San Francisco (AZL) Giants played a tight game with the hosts claiming a hard-fought win.
The San Francisco (AZL) Giants could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Mark Pellicano into a win. Instead, the Kansas City (AZL) Royals prevailed, 3-2. Pellicano threw 6.0 innings of 2-hit ball. The win went to Harry Evans in relief, making him now 4-1. Phil Hill took the loss for San Francisco (AZL). Joel Wiegand sewed up the save, his 6th.
Had Victor Arvizu not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Arvizu hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Royals.
"We were in it," said San Francisco (AZL) manager Fernando Melendez. "We just didn't score enough runs."
Kansas City (AZL), at 16-6, sits in first place in the West Division.
