Narrow Win Takes San Diego (AZL) Streak to 7
|
Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the San Diego (AZL) Padres got the win.
The San Diego (AZL) Padres topped the Texas (AZL) Rangers, 4-3, in Arizona Rookie League action at Surprise Stadium. The standout performance belonged to San Diego (AZL) pitcher and Detroit, Michigan, native Chris Bryant. Nick Jones got credit for the win, improving to 2-0. He allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 1.1 innings.
San Diego (AZL) used a clutch hit from Art Groves to get the win. The pinch hitter drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Padres ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a doozy.
"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Bryant.
The Padres saw their record improve to 27-16.
