Padres Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Reds, 11-6
|
Led by Bobby King, the San Diego (AZL) Padres downed the Cincinnati (AZL) Reds, 11-6. King went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times for the Padres. Sam Linder, 6-1, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1.2 innings. Josh Sturgess picked up the save for San Diego (AZL), his 9th of the year.
Had Jack Young not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Young hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the Padres.
"The more wins we pile up," said Young, "the more I like our chances."
The Padres, now 27-20, know that wins in August count the same as wins in September.
