Rays Earn 4-3 Road Win Over Pittsburgh (GCL)
Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the Pittsburgh (GCL) Pirates home opener. Randy Larocque started for the home team against Shane Ryan for the Tampa Bay (GCL) Rays. The Pirates were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 4-3, Tampa Bay (GCL). Ryan Giardina, though, was impressive. Shane Ryan got the win, improving to 1-0. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 8 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 6 and walking 2. Rafael Alonzo was credited with the save for Tampa Bay (GCL), his 1st of the season.

John Morgan, the 21-year old third baseman , had a direct impact on the outcome. Morgan contributed a 2-run single in the top of the sixth inning to put Tampa Bay (GCL) up, 4-3.

"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Morgan, "one at-bat at a time."
