In a low-scoring tilt between the Baltimore (GCL) Orioles and the Boston (GCL) Red Sox, 20-year old right-handed pitcher Rich Baker was the difference-maker. The Baltimore (GCL) right-hander spearheaded the 3-2 win. Oscar Segovia, 1-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. The loss drops Boston (GCL) to 1-1.

The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Ray Mayfield came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Boston (GCL) pitcher Dan Casas, he hit a 1-0 slider for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Baltimore (GCL) on top, 3-2.

"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Baker told the Baltimore (GCL) News. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
