5-1 Loss Deepens Boston (GCL) Funk
The St. Louis (GCL) Cardinals downed the Boston (GCL) Red Sox, 5-1, at Roger Dean Stadium. Stellar pitching by Danny Rubino had a lot to do with it. The right-hander handcuffed his opponent all game. Rubino yielded 1 run over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 9. His record improves to 2-1. The save went to Marco Loreto, his 1st this season.

Dustin Vecchio, who leads the GCL in home runs with 5, took Boston (GCL) hurler Rodrigo Rios deep in the bottom of the second. His 2-run home run put the Cardinals on top, 2-1. In all, Vecchio had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.

"We're not going to feel sorry for ourselves," said Boston (GCL) skipper Edwin Santos. "Wouldn't do any good."
