Boston (GCL) center fielder Miguel Valdez had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Valdez was 3-4 with a triple and 2 singles. He scored 2 times, even as Colorado (GCL) beat the Red Sox, 8-5. Mario Jiminez earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 4 hits in 2.2 innings. His record is now 4-0. The save went to Victor Portillo, his 1st this season.

Willie Ponce took Boston (GCL) hurler Francisco Pinedo deep in the bottom of the seventh. His 2-run home run put the Rockies on top, 6-5. In all, Ponce had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.

"Slowly but surely, the wins are piling up," said Ponce.

Colorado (GCL), at 41-14, holds down first place in the Northwest Division.
