Athletics Claim 7-1 Triumph

The Oakland (AZL) Athletics got a stellar effort from pitcher John Ries, helping Oakland (AZL) score a win over the visiting Chicago N (AZL) Cubs, 7-1. Ries, the winner, moves to 5-2. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 8 and giving up 1 walk. Picking up his 5th save was 21-year old right-handed pitcher Ryan Strasser.
Alex Torres, who is tied for 10th in the AZL in home runs with 6, contributed to the Oakland (AZL) win with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the designated hitter had 2 hits in 3 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 2 runs scored, and 1 RBI.
"Solid game, solid win tonight," said a smiling Torres.
The third-place Athletics are now 27-25, the Cubs 22-29.
