Zack Hall, who leads the NWL in innings pitched with 73.1, propelled his team to victory over the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes. The final score was 2-0, Los Angeles N (SS-A). Bill Pavek sewed up the save, his 3rd. By defeating Salem-Keizer, the third-place Dodgers improved to 22-26.

The Volcanoes had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Dodgers going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 24-year old designated hitter Ron Drake came to the plate. Drake hit a 2-run home run on a first pitch knuckle curve from Salem-Keizer hurler Phil Hill. It was Drake's 7th home run of the year.

"We were trying to do a difficult thing -- winning a game without scoring," said Salem-Keizer manager Bill Mercado. "That's not going to work out."
