Riding the 2-hit performance of the 21-year old right fielder Gary Davenport, the Eugene Emeralds stopped the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, 7-0, in 9 innings. Frank Casillas got the win, improving to 4-1. He worked 5.2 innings, giving up no runs on 2 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 2. Adam Wilson locked down his 1st save.

With Eugene leading 3-0 in the bottom of the eighth, Davenport hit a fastball from Rafael Jarava for a grand slam home run. It was his 5th home run of the season and put the Emeralds ahead, 7-0.

"Guys seem to be putting together some really nice at-bats right now," said Emeralds manager Pete Wallace.

At 36-21, the Emeralds find themselves in first place in the West Division.
