Left Fielder Young slugs 2 home runs in Cincinnati (SS-A) Win
|
Phil Young led the Cincinnati (SS-A) Reds to a nifty 5-0 win over the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes. The Cincinnati (SS-A) right fielder was a force of nature. He banged out 3 extra-base hits, including 2 home runs and 1 double. Mario Gomez picked up his 2nd save of the season. The Reds saw their win-loss record go to 32-27. At the same time, the Volcanoes fell to 27-32.
Frenk van den Ende dealt the Volcanoes a blow in the top of the fourth. Batting with a runner on 2nd and Cincinnati (SS-A) leading 1-0, van den Ende hit a 2-2 sinker for a run-scoring single.
"Just trying to keep things simple and helping the team win any way I can," Young told a local reporter after the game.
