Mountain, Hops Beat Twins, 9-0
|
The Hillsboro Hops powered past the Minnesota (SS-A) Twins, 9-0, at Ron Tonklin Field. Matt Mountain provided some of the pop. Mad Hatter threw 7.1 innings of shutout ball. The third-place Hops hiked their record to 21-49.
Brian Newman had a big grand slam home run for the Hops in the bottom of the first inning. With Hillsboro leading 2-0 and the bases loaded, he sized up a curveball from 21-year old left-handed pitcher Roberto Cortinas and punished it. The result was his 4th home run of the season, which put the Hops on top, 6-0.
"We did more than enough to get the win," said Mountain.
