Hops Edge Reds, 2-1
|
Cincinnati (SS-A) pitcher Willie Vasquez gave the Hops all they could handle, but in the end, Hillsboro left Ron Tonklin Field with a win, 2-1. Vasquez allowed 2 runs on 5 hits over 7 innings. Adam Hallett was the winner. Over 6 innings, he yielded 1 run on 4 hits, with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. The Hops improved their record to 23-50 with the win over Cincinnati (SS-A).
The Hops got a big at-bat from left fielder Bryant Buckles. For the game, Buckles was 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 7th home run of the season gave Hillsboro a 2-1 lead.
"That's baseball," said Cincinnati (SS-A) manager Kyle Macholl. "Sometimes the other team plays better than yours."
