White Sox Chop Down Emeralds, 5-0
|
The Chicago A (SS-A) White Sox beat the Eugene Emeralds, 5-0. Chicago A (SS-A) pitcher and Westerly, Rhode Island, native Eric Nowicki led the way. Nowicki yielded no runs over 5.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 2 hits, walked 3, and struck out 8. His record improves to 9-3. The White Sox raised their record to 48-26.
Nick Selfridge had a big bases-clearing triple for the White Sox in the bottom of the second inning. With Chicago A (SS-A) leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a knuckle curve from 23-year old right-handed pitcher Matt Holman and swatted a triple to left. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the White Sox ahead, 4-0.
Chicago A (SS-A) manager Danny Flores commended his team for "doing what it takes to win."
