Victory Over Rangers Takes Seattle (Rk+) to 22-14
|
The Seattle (Rk+) Mariners faced a tough opponent in Texas (Rk+) pitcher Gary Ayala, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Ballpark of Sammamish by a final score of 4-3. Ayala went 7 innings and allowed 4 runs. Jacob Fields, who went 6.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 7 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 3. His record now stands at 1-1. Antonio Solorio was credited with the save for Seattle (Rk+), his 6th of the season.
Gabe Cabrera had a big 3-run home run for the Mariners in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Seattle (Rk+) leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Gary Ayala, who is tied for 9th in the PIO in quality starts with 3, and swatted a home run to left. It was his 1st home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Mariners ahead, 4-0.
"There's ebbs and flows in the season and right now we're just looking to finish strong," said Cabrera.
The Mariners improved their record to 22-14 by beating Texas (Rk+).
