Cubs Upend Nationals, 3-2

The home team gave the crowd at Harbingers Ballpark something to cheer about.
Both offenses were relatively subdued at Harbingers Ballpark. Fortunately for the Chicago (Rk+) Cubs, though, John Griffin was able to deliver in the clutch. He went 3-3 with a home run and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once, to lead his team past the Washington (Rk+) Nationals, 3-2. Francisco Barrientos, the winner, improved to 2-0. He held the Nationals to 2 runs on 5 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 4 and walking 1. Carlos Cruz sewed up the save, his 3rd.
In the first inning, Griffin had a 3-run home run for Chicago (Rk+). It was his 2nd home run of the season and put the Cubs on top, 3-0.
"We busted our tails," said Washington (Rk+) manager Jeff Stanley. "But we came up short."
At 31-9, the Cubs claim first place in the East.
