3-2 Loss Deepens Oakland (Rk+) Funk
|
The Oakland (Rk+) Athletics could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Manny Roman into a win. Instead, the Las Vegas (Rk+) Hustle prevailed, 3-2. Roman threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball. Chris Marine, the winning pitcher, improved to 3-3. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 7 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 5 and walking 2. Pedro Lucero picked up the save for Las Vegas (Rk+), his 3rd of the year.
Las Vegas (Rk+) used the timely hitting of Bill Kenigsberg to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Hustle on top, 3-0. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Oakland (Rk+) skipper .
The misery never ends for the Athletics, who've lost 14 in a row.
