Venecia Helps Cubs Beat Raptors, 11-8
In a high-scoring contest between Chicago (Rk+) and Ogden, designated hitter Alex Venecia was a difference-maker. Venecia, who is tied for 8th in the PIO in RBI with 24, distinguished himself in the 11-8 Chicago (Rk+) win. He was 4 for 4 with a home run, 3 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Antonio Calderon picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-2. Joey Lawhead was tagged with the loss. Earning his 2nd save of the year was Sean Price.

The Raptors had been locked in a 8-8 tie with the Cubs going into the top of the eighth inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old center fielder Bill Buschke came to the plate. Buschke hit a run-scoring triple on a first pitch fastball from Ogden hurler Joey Lawhead. It was Buschke's 5th triple of the year.

"It was a nice win for our side today," said Cubs manager Valentino Garzelli. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."

The Cubs, at 21-21, sit in second place in the East.
