Grand Junction Upended, 9-3, by Billings
|
The Billings Mustangs topped the Grand Junction Rockies, 9-3, at Suplizio Field. Billings shortstop Blaine Rivera was a spark plug for the offense. He was 3-4 with a triple, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. The winner was Juan Ordaz, who threw 79 pitches over 5.1 innings. The right-hander was charged with 1 run on 3 hits. The Mustangs sit in third place in the North with a record of 31-19.
Jack Clawson had a big bases-clearing double for the Mustangs in the top of the second inning. With Billings leading 2-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 18-year old right-handed pitcher Paul Covey and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 19th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Mustangs ahead, 5-0.
"This team's hitting on all cylinders," said Mustangs manager Jon Koehn.
