Hurler Miles Bailey gave the Portland Tigers a solid start. The native of Mt. Prospect, Illinois helped his team defeat the Helena Brewers, 3-0, at Kindrick Legion Field. Portland reliever Willie Ochoa picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Owen Reefer was saddled with the loss. The Tigers, now 35-16, have won 5 in a row.

Jorge Alvarez, who is tied for 8th in the PIO with a .351 batting average, had a direct impact on the outcome. Alvarez contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning to put Portland up, 2-0.

"Miles was pumping the zone," said Portland manager Allen Franklin.
