Tigers Handle Nationals, 3-2
|
Though he had a stellar game, Toby Gerbino could not prevent his team, the Washington (Rk+) Nationals, from losing, 3-2, to the Portland Tigers. Gerbino was 2-3 with 2 singles. Portland reliever Jose Romero snagged the win, upping his record to 4-0. Ernesto Navarro shouldered the loss. Jason Harris closed out the game, earning his 3rd save.
The Nationals had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Tigers going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 24-year old second baseman Zack Miller came to the plate. Miller hit a run-scoring double on a 3-1 sinker from Washington (Rk+) hurler Ernesto Navarro. It was Miller's 7th double of the year.
"Credit where credit is due," said Miller, "this was a team win."
Portland is now 24-35, Washington (Rk+) 17-43.
