Tigers Win at Seattle (Rk+), 6-5
|
The Portland Tigers picked up a win at Ballpark of Sammamish, knocking off the Seattle (Rk+) Mariners, 6-5. On the mound for Portland was left-hander Steve Van Hoesen, who played a pivotal role in the win. Van Hoesen, now 3-3, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 0, walking 1, and allowing 3 runs. Hector Rangel closed the game out for Portland, earning his 1st save.
Portland used a well-timed hit by Ryan Larson to capture the win. The left fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the third inning to put the Tigers ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Van Hoesen said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
With the win over Seattle (Rk+), the Tigers improved to 36-40.
