St. Louis (GCL) pitcher Jon Rodriguez had a large part in his team subduing the Washington (GCL) Nationals, 2-0. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. Enrique Mendez recorded his 10th save for St. Louis (GCL). St. Louis (GCL) is now 40-28, Washington (GCL) 37-34.
The standout performance belonged to 17-year-old Rodriguez. With his baby face, he looked more like someone starting for a high school team than for the Cardinals. His performance, however, was nothing short of top-notch. The youngster dominated the Nationals, striking out 11 and scattering 4 hits over 7.1 innings. Rodriguez is now 6-4 on the season.
"We won," Rodriguez told assembled media after the game. "I guess that's all that really matters."
