Rays Rally For 2-0 Win

The Tampa Bay (GCL) Rays got a magnificent effort from pitcher George Phalen, who kept St. Louis (GCL) hitters in check en route to a 2-0 Rays win at Roger Dean Stadium. Reliever Danny Fluegge picked up the win. His record improves to 2-0. Jim Unknown took the loss. Shane Ryan was credited with the save for Tampa Bay (GCL), his 4th of the season.
Tampa Bay (GCL) used the clutch hitting of Micah Holbert to capture the win. The first baseman drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Rays ahead, 2-0. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"Bottom line," said St. Louis (GCL) skipper Greg Cary, "we didn't play well enough to win."
The first-place Rays improved to 43-28.
