Phillies Blank Pittsburgh (GCL), Trahan Winner
|
David Trahan of the Philadelphia (GCL) Phillies was on top of his game.
The 22-year-old tantalized the Pittsburgh (GCL) Pirates with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 1-0.
"He had the changeup working," Pittsburgh (GCL) manager Vinny Romo said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Philadelphia (GCL) hurler had 14 strikeouts, gave up no walks and surrendered 2 hits in his complete-game effort.
Trahan told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
Trahan has made 15 starts so far this year and put up a 8-1 won-lost record with a 1.96 ERA. In 110.1 innings he has allowed 95 hits, walked 15 and struck out 113.
