Wilmington Wins Again, 3-2
|
The Wilmington Blue Rocks got a strong game from starter Danny Bela, but it was some clutch hitting that ultimately delivered the win.
The Blue Rocks took the 3-2 win over the Potomac Nationals in Game 2 of the Round 1 in a 9th inning walk-off today. The win capped off a fine outing for the right-handed Bela. Bela threw 8.2 innings of 5-hit ball in the win, which gave the Blue Rocks a 2-0 lead in the best-of-5 series.
In the bottom of the ninth, with two out and the game tied, 2-2, third baseman Lonnie Groulx won it for Wilmington. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Groulx hit a full count fastball from Jason Harrison for a run-scoring single, giving his team the 3-2 win.
"There was a kid in the stands with a sign that said 'Wilmington Blue Rocks (probably) 2088 Round 2 Champions'," Groulx told reporters after the game. "I told him, 'Premature, but I like the confidence.'"
The next game is set to be played for Saturday, September 11th , 2088 at G. Richard Pfitzner Stadium in Woodbridge.
