Goss Excels, But Ironbirds Win
The Aberdeen Ironbirds took on the Hudson Valley Renegades at Dutchess Stadium.

Thomas Goss had a good game, but he could not keep the Hudson Valley Renegades from falling, 11-7, to the Aberdeen Ironbirds at Dutchess Stadium. The Hudson Valley right fielder was 4 for 5 with a home run, a triple, and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once in the loss. Omar Arriola, now 2-0, picked up the win in relief. He allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 2.2 innings.

Dan Katz had a big 2-run home run for the Ironbirds in the top of the third inning. With Aberdeen leading 3-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a sinker from 22-year old right-handed pitcher Matt Comstock and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the Ironbirds on top, 5-0.

Ironbirds manager Matt Kolb wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."

The 'W' lifts Aberdeen's record to 35-41.
