The Charlotte Knights faced a challenging opponent in Gwinnett Braves left-hander Steve Thornton, but did just enough to squeak out a 1-0 win in Game 1 of the Round 1 today. Charlotte now leads 1-0 in the best-of-5 series. The Knights won despite the Braves getting an excellent start from starter Thornton, who allowed 1 run and scattered 3 hits over 6.2 innings.

Had Ryan Foss not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Foss hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 1-0, in favor of the Knights.

"It's always fun to see the other guys getting frustrated, but the series isn't over and we've got to make sure to keep them on their heels," Charlotte manager Zach Strecker said.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at BB&T Stadium in Ft. Mill.
