Javier Portilla has led his Birmingham Barons to a Round 1 victory.

Birmingham's right fielder was named series MVP after playing an instrumental role in winning the series 3-1 and eliminating the Montgomery Biscuits.

"See the ball, hit the ball," he said. "It's simple what I did this series."

The club advanced to the Round 2 with a 11-2 triumph at Regions Field in the deciding game.

Portilla was red hot in the series, which saw him put up a .400 average, as well as 0 home runs and 1 RBI.

The Birmingham Barons will play against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in the next round. Pensacola won their series against the Chattanooga Lookouts 3 games to 0. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
