Justin Richardson and the Northwest Arkansas Naturals opened the Round 1 in brilliant fashion today, traveling to Tulsa and shutting out the host Drillers at ONEOK Field 1-0 to secure an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Richardson, the Naturals right-hander, threw 8.0 innings of shutout ball.

Richardson was in the zone all game. He frustrated Tulsa hitters while giving the Naturals 8 innings of quality work. Richardson threw 114 pitches, allowing 3 hits and getting 6 punchouts.

"It's true for every sport, I think, but the playoffs are so short that you've just got to get in and get hot," Northwest Arkansas manager Justin Black told BNN after the win. "We took care of the first part and now we're just working on the second."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at ONEOK Field in Tulsa.
