Salt Lake Extends Series Lead in Low-Scoring Affair
Their bats were silent and Salt Lake had a rookie on the mound. No problem.

On a day when the Bees struggled to string together much offense, the club got a big boost from 21-year-old starter Earl Jones. The right-hander quieted the Memphis Redbirds at AutoZone Park to help Salt Lake take the 3-1 decision and seize a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-7 Round 2.

Salt Lake needed the clutch hitting of Takashi Nakata to seal the deal. The first baseman swatted a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Bees on top, 2-1. For the game, Nakata had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

Nakata said his team "played with focus."

Game 3 is scheduled for Friday at Smith's Ballpark in Salt Lake City.
