Loons Cruise to Round 2 with Sweep
|
Many baseball pundits expected a close series in the Midwest League Round 1. It turned out quite a bit different.
The Great Lakes Loons swept aside the Lake County Captains to advance to the Round 2, winning the final game by a 6-4 score at Dow Diamond.
The series MVP was shortstop Ruben Alvarez, who hit .375 with a .455 on-base percentage. He had 2 home runs, drove in 5 RBI and scored 2 runs.
"We expected this series to go right down to the wire, so to sweep is a bit of a surprise," he said. "But we'll take it."
The Great Lakes Loons don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Peoria Chiefs - Wisconsin Timber Rattlers series. Peoria leads the series 2 games to 1. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
