Legends Beat Tourists, 5-2, to Start R1
|
The Lexington Legends faced a tough opponent in Asheville Tourists pitcher Marcos Ovalle, but did just enough to pull out a win in Game 1 of the Round 1, which they now lead 1-0. The Legends won, 5-2, at Whitaker Bank Ballpark, despite the Tourists getting a strong start from right-hander Ovalle, who went 7 innings and allowed 1 run.
Oakley, California-born Aaron Wells came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the eighth, with runners on 2nd and 3rd and the Legends trailing 2-1, he hit a 2-run double to center to put Lexington on top.
"It's hard to overstate how much this mattered to us, especially in a short series," Lexington manager Sean Young said.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington.
