The State College Spikes topped the Williamsport Crosscutters, 5-3, in New York-Penn League action at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The standout performance belonged to State College pitcher and Adelphi, Maryland, native Wayne Pitts. Pitts got the win, improving to 2-2. He gave up 4 hits and walked 4 over 6.2 innings. He allowed 3 runs. At 47-28, the Spikes find themselves in first place in the Pinckney Division.

The Crosscutters had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Spikes going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old second baseman Santos Gonzales came to the plate. Gonzales hit a 2-run triple on a 0-1 fastball from Williamsport hurler Gervasio Galinheiro. It was Gonzales's 4th triple of the year.

"We had a good game plan," Pitts said, "and we were able to execute it."
