Spikes Lose, 7-0, at Bowman Field
|
State College had no answer for Williamsport Crosscutters starter Jose Liriano, who flummoxed Spikes hitters as the Crosscutters cruised to victory, 7-0. Liriano, the winner, moves to 3-5. He threw 6 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 3 walks. The 5th-place Crosscutters go to 33-43.
Ben Purpura had a big run-scoring double for the Crosscutters in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Williamsport leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from 23-year old right-handed pitcher Dave Thornton and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 8th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Crosscutters ahead, 2-0.
"Feels good to get the job done," Purpura said after the game.
