Kannapolis Intimidators manager B.J. Sabol knew it was a gamble to give the start to a rookie. It was a good gamble to take.

Pitching in front of a hostile crowd, 21-year-old right-hander Jeff Lehman silenced the host Hagerstown Suns at Municipal Stadium today. The Intimidators shut out the Suns by a final score of 2-0, to give the Intimidators a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-5 Round 1.

One of the key players for the Intimidators was first baseman Jon Newell, who drilled a double in the top of the first inning. For the game, Newell was 2-3 with a double and a walk.

"It was a solid team effort," said Lehman after the game.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown.
