Round 1 Game 1 Victory for Esquivel and Palm Beach
The Palm Beach Cardinals started the Round 1 in style, downing the visiting St. Lucie Mets at Roger Dean Stadium by a score of 5-4 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Cardinals right-hander Pete Esquivel threw 7.0 innings allowing 4 runs.

In the bottom of the 5th, Palm Beach took the lead on a 2-run double by Bill Macomber. At the time, the Cardinals were trailing 1-0, but Macomber's hit with two outs against St. Lucie pitcher Adam Mills put them in front, 2-1.

"Things broke our way today and that's great," Cardinals manager Greg Cary said. "It's important, though, to stay focused and not pat yourself on the back too much. We aren't done yet."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter.
