Tulsa Takes 1-0 Series Lead with Walk-off Win
|
The Tulsa Drillers started the Round 1 in dramatic fashion, stealing Game 1 from the Springfield Cardinals in a walk-off. Tulsa won, 7-6, behind a good day from starter Tommy Harris. The right-hander threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball in the win, which gave the Drillers a 1-0 lead to start the best-of-5 series.
Up to bat in the bottom of the ninth, 26-year old first baseman Mark Overton had a chance to be the hero. Springfield pitcher Alex Rodriquez wanted to foil that plan. But with one out, Overton drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Drillers had themselves a thrilling win.
"They say the first rule of the playoffs is to win the home games," Overton said afterward. "It feels nice, but it is kind of what we were supposed to do."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at ONEOK Field in Tulsa.
