Louisville Extends Series Lead in Low-Scoring Affair
|
The Louisville Bats moved to within one game of the Round 2, downing the visiting Syracuse Chiefs at Louisville Slugger Field by a score of 3-1. Bats right-hander Jeff Jordan had a strong outing in which he threw 6.1 innings of 4-hit ball. The win gives the Bats a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-5 Round 1.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Bats had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the second, when designated hitter Richard Merino hit a 2-run home run. The home run came off Peyton Scarola and made the score 2-0, Bats. Merino went 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"Jeff kept his poise and got the job done," said Louisville manager Isaac Moles. "He was outstanding."
The next game is set to be played for Saturday, September 11th , 2106 at NBT Bank Stadium in Syracuse.
