The Birmingham Barons have eliminated the Mississippi Braves and are off to the Round 2.

Birmingham won the final game by a 13-3 score and thus clinched the series 3-1.

"We think this is our year, but we're taking it one game at a time," said Dan Elkins, who was named series MVP.

For the series, Elkins hit .500 with a .533 on-base percentage. He drove in 3 RBI and scored 4 runs.

The Birmingham Barons don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Chattanooga Lookouts - Pensacola Blue Wahoos series. Pensacola leads the series 2 games to 1. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
