Birmingham Scrapes Out 7-4 Win
|
Mississippi left fielder Tony Orozco had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Orozco was 2-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2, even as Birmingham beat the Braves, 7-4. Kevin Mohr earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. He upped his record to 6-3. With the win, Birmingham raised its record to 82-58.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Mario Toledo came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Mississippi pitcher Daniel Pethoud, he hit a 0-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Birmingham on top, 5-4.
"Trying isn't good enough in this league," said Toledo. "You've got to get results."
