Donaghey, Emeralds Take Dramatic Game 2 for 2-0 Series Lead
|
The Eugene Emeralds moved to within one game of the Round 2, downing the Kansas City (SS-A) Royals, 1-0, in a tense, extra-inning affair at PK Park. Leading the way for the Emeralds was left-hander Doug Donaghey. He threw 6.1 innings of shutout ball. The win gives the Emeralds a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-5 Round 1.
The decisive blow was delivered by Dustin Rivas in the bottom of the tenth when he hit a run-scoring double off 20-year old right-handed pitcher Cesar Lepe to win the game for Eugene. The home crowd went nuts.
"We are some kind of hot right now," said Donaghey.
Game 3 is scheduled for Tuesday at Melaleuca Field in Idaho Falls.
