Loons Hammered by O'Connor, Drop Game 3 to Cubs
|
The South Bend Cubs moved to within one game of the Round 2, downing the visiting Great Lakes Loons at Four Winds Field at Coveleski Stadium by a score of 5-4. Cubs second baseman Travis O'Connor did some major damage. He was 1-4 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. The win gives the Cubs a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-5 Round 1.
O'Connor hit a grand slam home run in the bottom of the first to help the South Bend cause. The home run, which was hit off Humberto Rivera, allowed South Bend to take a 4-0 lead.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said South Bend manager Roy Ofstad.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Four Winds Field at Coveleski Stadium in South Bend.
