The Kansas City (AZL) Royals started the Round 1 in style, downing the visiting Chicago A (AZL) White Sox at Surprise Stadium by a score of 8-3 to grab an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Royals right fielder Carlos Canales was 3-4 with a double, 2 singles, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 times.

Jesus Pantoja hit a 2-run double off Dan Jenkins in the bottom of the first, which put the Royals in front, 2-0. In addition to the double, Pantoja had 1 single, while going 2 for 5.

"It's hard to overstate how much this mattered to us, especially in a short series," Kansas City (AZL) manager Rich Freedland said.
