Home Field Advantage: Puentes, Mahoning Valley Open Round 1 with Win
When he got to Mahoning Valley, Ivan Puentes was just worrying about staying on the roster. Today, he was starring in the Round 1.

The 21-year-old rookie right-hander shut out the visiting Williamsport Crosscutters 3-0 in a remarkable performance at Eastwood Field today. With the win, the Scrappers took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 Round 1.

Puentes gave Mahoning Valley a solid start. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits over 6 innings.

"For the most part, I made good pitches when I needed to," said Puentes.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Eastwood Field in Niles.
