Their bats were silent and Peoria had a rookie on the mound. No problem.

On a day when the Chiefs struggled to string together much offense, the club got a big boost from 24-year-old starter Josh Bowling. The left-hander quieted the Kane County Cougars at Dozer Park to help Peoria take the 3-0 decision and seize a 1-0 advantage in the best-of-5 Round 1.

Bowling was dominant for Peoria. The left-hander allowed no runs on 5 hits, while racking up 10 strikeouts. He threw 110 pitches over 8.1 innings in the contest.

"Josh approached every single pitch he made with total conviction," said Peoria manager Tommy Davenport.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Dozer Park in Peoria.
