Lake Monsters Clip Cyclones 4-3 in R1 Contest
|
The Vermont Lake Monsters went the distance and then some at MCU Park today to drag themselves back into a tie with the Brooklyn Cyclones.
It took 10 innings to settle Game 2 of the Round 1, but Vermont eventually took the 4-3 win behind the efforts of starting pitcher A.J. Wayne. Wayne threw 6.0 innings allowing 2 runs to aid the Vermont cause. The clubs are now tied 1-1 in their best-of-5 series.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Craig Svare came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing Brooklyn pitcher Tyler Allen, he hit a 2-2 curveball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Vermont on top, 4-2.
Brooklyn manager Bill Foshee said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
The next game is set to be played for Tuesday, September 16th , 2098 at Centennial Field in Burlington.
