Wood Blasts Shorebirds, Power Take Game 1, 5-3

The West Virginia Power started the Round 1 in style, winning on the road against the Delmarva Shorebirds at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium by a score of 5-3 to take an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Power second baseman Pat Wood excelled. He went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.
A key moment came with one out in the top of the third. That's when Wood hit a fastball from Jared Angell for a 3-run home run, putting West Virginia up, 4-0.
"It's true for every sport, I think, but the playoffs are so short that you've just got to get in and get hot," West Virginia manager Gerardo Zarco told BNN after the win. "We took care of the first part and now we're just working on the second."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium in Salisbury.
