CF Raines, Giants Destroy Guardians, 13-2, to Force Game 5
|
The San Francisco (AZL) Giants and the Cleveland (AZL) Guardians will take the Round 1 to a decisive 5th game. In a must-win situation, the Giants beat the Guardians, 13-2, at Indians Developmental Complex to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. San Francisco (AZL) left fielder Conrad Raines went 3-4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 4.
A critical at-bat came in the top of the seventh inning when the Giants sent 18-year-old second baseman Rogelio Salazar to the plate with the bases loaded. The youngster shook off the pressure and hit a bases-clearing double, to put San Francisco (AZL) on top, 10-1.
"It's on me," said Guardians manager Mario Escobar. "The guys I sent out there today were the wrong ones for the situation. I'll be sure to send the right ones out next time."
Game 5 is scheduled for Tuesday at Scottsdale Stadium.
