The Carolina Mudcats moved to within one game of the Round 2, downing the Myrtle Beach Pelicans on the road at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark by a score of 6-5. Mudcats designated hitter Chris Gautreaux was 2-4 with a double and a walk. He scored 2 runs. The win gives the Mudcats a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-5 Round 1.

Carolina used a timely hit from Juan Gonzalez to get the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Mudcats ahead, 6-5. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.

"We had the game right there for the taking," said Myrtle Beach manager Valentino Garzelli. "But we decided not to take it."
