Medina, Tourists Take Dramatic Game 1 for 1-0 Series Lead
|
The Asheville Tourists started the Round 1 in dramatic fashion, stealing Game 1 from the Augusta GreenJackets in a walk-off in the 10th inning. Asheville took the 3-2 win thanks in large part to a good day from starter Jesus Medina. The right-hander threw 5.1 innings of 3-hit ball in the win, which gave the Tourists a 1-0 lead to start the best-of-5 series.
Batting in the bottom of the tenth, 20-year old second baseman Bill Peyton had a real shot to win the game. Augusta pitcher Nick Nagy was determined not to let it happen. But with two outs, Peyton hit a run-scoring single. The Tourists had a walk-off triumph.
"It's what good teams do, find a way to win," said Peyton.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at McCormick Field in Asheville.
