GreenJackets Win to Tie Series with Braves
|
The Augusta GreenJackets and the Rome Braves will take the Round 1 to a decisive 5th game. In a must-win situation, the GreenJackets beat the Braves, 7-2, at State Mutual Stadium to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. Augusta shortstop Matt Roberts was 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.
Augusta used a well-timed hit by Julio Villarreal to capture the win. The designated hitter socked a run-scoring double in the top of the third inning to put the GreenJackets ahead, 1-0. Though it was his only hit in 1 at-bat, it was important.
Villarreal told a Augusta Times reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
The next game is set to be played for Wednesday, September 16th , 2105 at Lake Olmstead Stadium in Augusta.
