Columbia Takes Round 1 in Deciding Game
|
The Columbia Fireflies are heading to the Round 2, having narrowly defeated the Asheville Tourists.
Columbia edged Asheville in the series 3-2, with a win at Spirit Communications Park in the clinching game by a 3-1 margin.
Jamie Burks turned in a strong offensive performance for the Fireflies and got series MVP for his efforts.
"I'll never turn down another trophy for my mantle, another accomplishment to remember once my career is over," he said. "What I would really remember, though, is a Round 2 win."
It remains to be seen how the playoffs will conclude, but if Burks continues to swing a hot bat, his team will no doubt have a chance.
For the series, he hit .333 with a .364 on-base percentage. He had 1 home runs, 3 RBI and scored 3 runs.
The Columbia Fireflies don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Delmarva Shorebirds - Kannapolis Intimidators series. That series is tied at 2 games apiece. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
